Blue Heron Electric is a licensed, insured electrical contractor serving residential and commercial clients across Metro Detroit, Oakland County, and surrounding Michigan communities. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Electrical Project Lead who takes pride in their craft and can run a job site — leading a crew and delivering results from start to finish.
POSITION OVERVIEW
As an Electrical Project Lead, you will oversee electrical projects from kickoff to completion across residential and commercial job sites throughout Michigan. This role is built for an experienced electrician ready to lead a crew, manage the job site day to day, and consistently deliver results that meet Michigan electrical code standards.
You will be the on-site point of contact for customers and inspectors, communicate clearly about the scope of work, and keep projects on schedule and on budget while guiding the team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead electrical installation, maintenance, and repair across residential and commercial settings, including wiring, panels, breakers, outlets, switches, and lighting
- Read and interpret blueprints, electrical diagrams, and project specifications to plan the work and direct the crew
- Oversee panel upgrades, service changes, and circuit installations in compliance with the Michigan Electrical Code and NEC standards
- Install EV chargers, generators, ceiling fans, smoke/CO detectors, surge protection devices, and specialty systems
- Troubleshoot electrical issues, diagnose problems, and recommend effective solutions
- Supervise and mentor journeymen and apprentices, assigning daily tasks and keeping the crew on schedule
- Enforce safety standards and keep a clean, safe, and organized job site at all times
- Serve as the main on-site point of contact for customers, inspectors, and the office
- Accurately document work completed, materials used, and any follow-up items needed
- Coordinate materials, scheduling, permit inspections, and project timelines to keep jobs on budget
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Michigan Journeyman or Master Electrician License — required
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on electrical experience, including time leading crews or running job sites
- Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and Michigan-specific regulations
- Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and motivate a crew on the job site
- Proficient in reading blueprints, wiring diagrams, and electrical schematics
- Reliable transportation and a valid Michigan driver's license
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and standing for extended periods
- Strong communication, customer service, and team leadership skills
- Attention to detail and a safety-first mindset on every job
Preferred (not required): Experience with smart home/remodel wiring, pool and hot tub electrical, commercial parking lot lighting, or generator systems.
