Mechanical Project Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical Project Engineer to lead mechanical design and project delivery for building systems. The ideal candidate will manage MEP/HVAC projects from concept through closeout, coordinate multidisciplinary teams using BIM tools, and ensure installations meet performance, schedule, and budget targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical engineering design and project execution for MEP/HVAC systems across commercial and institutional projects.
- Develop and review mechanical calculations, equipment selections, schedules, and specifications to meet project requirements and codes.
- Produce and coordinate Revit/BIM models and 2D CAD drawings for mechanical systems; ensure model accuracy and clash coordination with other disciplines.
- Collaborate with architects, electrical and plumbing engineers, contractors, and owners to resolve design issues and integrate systems.
- Prepare construction documents, submittals, RFIs, and design change documentation; support construction administration and commissioning activities.
- Manage project scope, budgets, and schedules; track progress, identify risks, and implement corrective actions to meet deliverables.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and drafters; review work for quality and adherence to standards.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, sustainability goals, and client requirements, and assist with permitting as needed.
- Participate in client meetings, present technical solutions, and maintain strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- EIT certification required; Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering for building MEP/HVAC systems; project engineering or design-build experience preferred.
- Proficient in Revit (MEP/BIM), AutoCAD, and mechanical analysis tools; experience with clash detection and BIM coordination.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, ductwork and piping design, equipment selection, load calculations, and industry codes (ASHRAE, IMC, NFPA, local codes).
- Experience preparing construction documents, specifications, submittals, and performing construction administration duties.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational skills, and ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines, with a commitment to quality and safety.
