Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and drive-oriented Estimator / Project Manager to join our team in Alden, NY. This dual-function role covers the complete project lifecycle—from analyzing plans and submitting competitive bids to leading site operations, managing subcontracts, controlling budgets, and ensuring project completion.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in heavy civil infrastructure, bulk earthwork, paving, site utilities, or commercial demolition, along with hands-on experience utilizing modern construction technologies such as GPS grade control software and 3D modeling. Responsible for projects ranging from $1 Million to $15 Million.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Bidding (Preconstruction)
- Takeoffs & Cost Modeling: Review civil, structural, and site plans to perform accurate quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utility work, paving, and demolition.
- Bid Preparation: Build complete cost estimates (labor, equipment, materials, subcontracts, and hauling) for municipal, state (DOT), and commercial private bids.
- Subcontractor & Supplier Relations: Solicit, analyze, and negotiate vendor and subcontractor proposals to ensure scope compliance and competitive pricing.
- Pre-Bid Meetings & Walkthroughs: Attend mandatory pre-bid meetings and site visits across WNY to evaluate existing site conditions and constructability requirements.
Project Management & Field Execution
- Project Oversight: Manage awarded civil, site-prep, and demolition projects from job kickoff to closeout, maintaining high quality and strict safety standard enforcement (OSHA).
- Scheduling & Resource Allocation: Coordinate equipment fleets, trucking logistics, and crew scheduling alongside Project Superintendents.
- Financial Management: Track job costs against estimated budgets, generate schedules of values, submit monthly progress billings, and manage change order requisitions.
- Communication & Coordination: Serve as the primary contact for projects. Manage day-to-day administrative responsibility, RFI’s, submittals, contracts, CO, and pay apps. Coordinate field work with General Superintendent, Project Superintendent and Management
- Technology Integration: Collaborate with survey and tech teams on GPS grade control files, 3D site modeling, and progress tracking software.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 3–5+ years in heavy civil, earthwork, site utilities, demolition, or highway construction estimating and project management.
- Education: B.S. in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent practical field/estimating experience.
- Personal Skills:
- Self-starter with proven track record to take ownership of assigned projects.
- Commitment to detail with a strong sense of urgency
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in estimating/takeoff software (e.g., Heavy Jobs/HCSS, AGTEK, Bluebeam, PlanSwift).
- Familiarity with project scheduling tools (MS Project, Primavera) and civil site technology (GPS survey/grade control systems).
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Office Suite.
- Certifications (Preferred): OSHA 30-Hour certification.
- Additional Requirements:
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record (travel to regional job sites required).
- Ability to pass pre-employment screening.
