Sign Fabricator / Sign Maker
Overview
Minuteman Press Southwest is looking for an experienced Sign Fabricator who understands how commercial signs are built—not just someone who can weld or operate tools. We need someone who knows sign materials, fabrication methods, structural requirements, and how to take a concept from production drawings to a finished product.
The ideal candidate has experience building channel letters, cabinet signs, dimensional letters, monument signs, blade signs, and custom architectural signage. They understand what materials should be used for different applications and can fabricate signs that are safe, durable, and installation-ready.
Responsibilities
- Fabricate channel letters, cabinet signs, monument signs, blade signs, dimensional letters, and custom signage.
- Read production drawings, shop drawings, and fabrication details.
- Select the proper materials for each project, including aluminum, ACM, acrylic, polycarbonate, stainless steel, galvanized steel, PVC, HDU, and sign foam.
- Understand cabinet construction, raceways, mounting methods, internal bracing, drainage, and structural reinforcement.
- Build signs that meet engineering requirements and local sign codes.
- Install and wire LED lighting modules, power supplies, and electrical components for illuminated signs.
- Operate fabrication equipment including shears, brakes, saws, welders, CNC routers, drills, grinders, and other shop equipment.
- Perform MIG and TIG welding on aluminum and steel.
- Assemble signs with attention to quality, fit, finish, and durability.
- Work with installers and project managers to ensure signs are fabricated correctly for installation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of commercial sign fabrication experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of sign construction and fabrication methods.
- Knowledge of illuminated and non-illuminated sign systems.
- Experience with aluminum fabrication, acrylic fabrication, and cabinet construction.
- Ability to determine proper material thicknesses and fabrication techniques.
- Knowledge of LED layouts, power supplies, and electrical sign components is a plus.
- Ability to read fabrication drawings and production files.
- Experience operating shop equipment and fabrication machinery.
- Welding experience (MIG/TIG) preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship.
- Ability to lift 75 lbs and work safely in a fabrication environment.
