Solar Repower Preconstruction Project Manager, Transmission & Substation

Westinghouse Electric - USA • Contract • Juno Beach, Florida, United States • $50 - $55 / hour • 2m ago

Step into the driver’s seat of solar repowering

This 1-year W-2 contract places you at the heart of utility-scale solar repower initiatives. As the Solar Repower Preconstruction Project Manager (T&S), you’ll guide projects from development handoff through execution turnover—planning, permitting, and preparing every detail to meet safety, quality, cost, and schedule targets. You’ll assess existing solar assets, shape optimized repower designs, and ensure seamless integration with transmission and substation systems.

A day in this role

You kick off with a cross-functional standup, aligning engineering, environmental, procurement, and finance on the week’s milestones. Your schedule and budget are living tools—updated as interconnection studies progress and vendor proposals arrive. Midday is for permit strategy with environmental partners and coordination with utilities and local authorities. You close the day by validating safe harbor equipment timelines, sharpening risk registers, and preparing for a milestone review that caps off the preconstruction phase.

What you’ll lead

Project planning & management from development handoff to construction turnover
Detailed schedules, budgets, and risk registers across multiple concurrent projects
Multidisciplinary engineering (electrical, civil, structural, mechanical) and design oversight
Interconnection studies and grid integration requirements within T&S scope
Permitting strategy, regulatory coordination, and code/safety compliance
Procurement support: specs, vendor qualification, and contract negotiations
Safe harbor equipment planning and renewable tax credit compliance timelines
Financial stewardship: cost forecasts, cost capitalization support, and reporting
Project meetings, reviews, and milestone presentations
Handoff planning with operations and commissioning preparation

What you bring

Bachelor’s in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field
6+ years in utility-scale renewable energy preconstruction project management or engineering
Experience with utility interconnection processes
Knowledge of utility-scale solar construction; PMP certification is optional

Technical strengths

Strong understanding of solar PV and battery storage technologies
Power systems, grid interconnection, and utility regulations
Environmental permitting and regulatory compliance expertise
Familiarity with safe harbor provisions and renewable energy tax credits
Proficiency with project management software, scheduling tools, and Excel
