Job Overview
Nema Enclosures is a premier manufacturer of custom NEMA-rated electrical enclosures, cabinets, and junction boxes. We are seeking a proven, experienced Aluminum MIG & TIG Welder for our Night Shift production line.
This is NOT an entry-level or trainee position. Candidates must pass a hands-on aluminum weld test on-site prior to hire. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience TIG and MIG welding thin-gauge aluminum (1/8", 14-gauge, 16-gauge) to achieve clean, leak-tight, and distortion-free seams required for NEMA 4X weatherproof enclosures. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where craftsmanship and attention to detail are highly valued.
Duties
- Perform precise MIG and TIG welding on aluminum enclosure bodies, doors, frames, and custom sub-assemblies to NEMA 4X (water-tight/dust-tight) standards.
- Set up, fine-tune, and maintain TIG (AC balance/frequency) and MIG welding equipment for thin-gauge aluminum applications.
- Fit-up parts according to engineering blueprints, job travelers, and tight dimensional tolerances.
- Apply heat-control techniques to eliminate material distortion on aluminum panels.
- Clean, grind, and finish welds as necessary to meet structural integrity and aesthetic powder-coat standards.
- Utilize measuring tools (calipers, height gauges, tape measures, framing squares) to verify part dimensions before and after welding.
- Adhere to night shift safety protocols, wear required PPE, and maintain 5S organization in the welding bay.
Requirements & Experience
- Minimum 2+ years of direct Aluminum TIG and MIG welding experience in a sheet metal fabrication shop (REQUIRED).
- Mandatory On-Site Weld Test: Must be able to pass a practical aluminum TIG/MIG welding test (thin-gauge sheet metal, fillet and groove welds, distortion control) during the interview process.
- Thin-Gauge Aluminum Expertise: Demonstrated ability to weld aluminum sheet metal without burn-through, excessive warping, or structural weakness.
- Blueprints & Symbols: Strong proficiency in reading engineering drawings, fabrication blueprints, and AWS weld symbols.
- Night Shift Autonomy: Proven track record of safety, punctuality, and productivity working an off-shift with minimal supervision.
- Note: General heavy structural steel welding or pipe welding alone DOES NOT meet the thin-gauge sheet metal requirements for this role.
- Knowledge of safety protocols related to welding operations, construction sites, and the use of power tools.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience welding stainless steel or carbon steel in addition to aluminum is a strong plus.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and maneuver sheet metal weldments throughout the shift.
Job Type: Full-time (Night Shift)
