PLUMBER — If You’re Good at What You Do, We Should Talk

Comfort Services | Plainfield, IL | Full-Time | In Person

There are plumbers who can replace a faucet.

There are plumbers who can follow a work order.

And then there are plumbers who can walk into a customer's home, diagnose the problem, explain it without confusing or pressuring the customer, provide the right solution, do excellent work, and leave behind a customer who is glad they called.

That’s the plumber we’re looking for.

Comfort Services is growing our Plumbing Department, and we aren't interested in filling a truck just so we can say we hired another plumber.

We want someone good.

Someone who knows the trade.

Someone who takes pride in their work.

Someone who understands that being a professional plumber involves a whole lot more than knowing which way to turn a pipe wrench.

If you've put in the years to become genuinely good at this trade and you're looking for a company where that actually matters, keep reading.

WHAT YOU’LL ACTUALLY BE DOING

You'll be running residential plumbing service calls for Comfort Services customers throughout our service area.

That means diagnosing problems, giving customers options, completing repairs and installations, and representing our company inside people's homes.

You'll handle work such as:

Plumbing diagnostics and troubleshooting
Water heater repair and replacement
Faucets, fixtures, toilets, and garbage disposals
Water supply and drainage issues
Leak diagnosis and repair
Shut-off valves and piping repairs
Sump pumps and related equipment
Plumbing inspections
Residential plumbing maintenance
System upgrades and replacement recommendations
Additional residential plumbing repairs and installations based on your experience and capabilities

But here's the important part:

We're not looking for a parts changer.

We want someone who can look at the entire situation, understand what is happening, communicate with the homeowner, and recommend the right solution.

THE PLUMBER WE WANT

You probably already know whether this describes you.

We're looking for someone who:

Has strong residential plumbing service experience
Knows how to diagnose instead of guess
Takes pride in clean, professional workmanship
Can communicate comfortably with homeowners
Can explain a problem without drowning the customer in technical jargon
Provides options instead of automatically choosing for the customer
Understands the difference between educating a customer and pressuring one
Can identify additional legitimate plumbing concerns while in the home
Keeps a clean and organized work area
Respects the customer's home
Documents work properly
Can use a tablet and modern field-service software
Shows up when they're supposed to
Takes ownership when something goes wrong
Doesn't need to be babysat
Is willing to continue learning
Can accept coaching even after years in the trade

Most importantly:

You care about doing the job right.

Not almost right.

Not "good enough."

Right.

YOU PROBABLY WON’T LIKE WORKING HERE IF...

Let's save both of us some time.

This probably isn't the right company for you if:

You're regularly late
Your truck looks like a plumbing supply house exploded inside it
You leave the mess for the customer
You think paperwork and documentation are somebody else's problem
Your first diagnosis is usually "replace it" without figuring out why it failed
You refuse to use technology
You think being experienced means nobody can coach you
You blame dispatch, the customer, the equipment, the office, or the last technician every time something goes wrong
You don't like talking to customers
You think offering customers additional solutions makes someone a "salesman"
You cut corners when nobody is watching
You're looking for a company where you can disappear into a truck and collect a paycheck

That isn't how we operate.

We expect something from our plumbers.

And our plumbers should expect something from us.

WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT FROM COMFORT SERVICES

A good plumber shouldn't have to fight his own company every day just to do his job.

Our responsibility is to give you the support, tools, opportunities, and structure you need to succeed.

Strong Compensation

If you're productive, professional, and good at this trade, you should be able to make good money doing it.

We offer:

Competitive compensation
Performance-based earning opportunities
Opportunities to increase your income based on performance and capability
Overtime opportunities when available

Compensation should reward performance—not simply how long you've owned a pipe wrench.

Benefits

Health insurance
Dental insurance
Vision insurance
401(k)
401(k) matching
Paid time off
FREE access to our company gym

A Growing Plumbing Department

Here's something that matters:

You aren't walking into a plumbing department where everything has already been decided for the next 20 years.

We're growing.

That creates opportunities for the right people.

As the department expands, we'll need strong technicians, leaders, trainers, specialists, and people capable of taking on greater responsibility.

If you're looking for somewhere to coast until retirement, that may not matter much to you.

If you're looking for somewhere you can help build something, it should.

WE DON'T WANT YOU TO BE A SALESMAN

We want you to be a professional.

There is a difference.

A professional plumber walks into a home, thoroughly evaluates the situation, identifies legitimate concerns, explains what they found, gives the homeowner reasonable options, and allows the customer to make an informed decision.

We expect our plumbers to be comfortable talking about money.

We expect you to recommend repairs and improvements when they're legitimately needed.

We expect you to provide options.

And we expect you to do it without lying, manipulating, scaring, or pressuring people.

Take care of the customer.

Do the right thing.

The business usually takes care of itself.

YOUR NAME IS ON THE JOB TOO

When you finish a plumbing job, we want you to be able to step back, look at it, and feel good putting your name on it.

Because even though the truck says Comfort Services, customers remember the person who was standing in their home.

Your workmanship represents us.

Our reputation helps represent you.

Both sides of that relationship matter.

ABOUT COMFORT SERVICES

We're building our plumbing division with the same goal we've had throughout our company:

Take excellent care of customers and build a team of people who are damn good at what they do.

We're not going to tell you we're perfect.

We're not.

We're growing.

We're improving.

We're going to make mistakes.

But we're serious about building something good, and we want people around us who are serious about their careers.
