About the role
JMO Group is a Malden-based construction and mechanical services company serving residential and commercial clients across Greater Boston and the North Shore. We are hiring a Massachusetts-licensed Master Plumber to be the licensed lead of our plumbing operation: you will serve as Licensee of Record for JMO Group's Massachusetts plumbing business license, pull and close permits, run inspections, and lead a growing crew of journeymen and apprentices — while staying hands-on in the field on rough-ins, finish work, and service calls.
This is a builder's role, not a desk job. You will report to the MEP Director and work alongside our HVAC and general construction teams on active projects, renovations, and service work.
What you'll do
- Licensee of Record. Serve as Licensee of Record for JMO Group's Massachusetts plumbing business license, including the required officer or manager designation, Board filings, and responsibility for regulatory compliance. Pull, manage, and close plumbing and gas permits with local inspectors.
- Inspections & oversight. Schedule and pass rough and final inspections; oversee work performed under the company's license and permits and ensure compliance with applicable codes, inspection requirements, and licensing rules.
- Hands-on work. Install, repair, and maintain residential and light-commercial plumbing systems: water supply, DWV, gas piping, water heaters, fixtures, and related equipment — new construction, renovation, and service.
- Lead the crew. Supervise, train, and develop journeymen and apprentices; maintain required licensed-supervision ratios on every job.
- Code & quality. Ensure all work meets 248 CMR (Massachusetts Plumbing & Gas Code), manufacturer specs, and JMO quality standards.
- Planning & estimating support. Walk jobs with Project Managers and Estimators; take off materials, flag scope or code issues early, and support pricing of plumbing scopes.
- Service calls. Diagnose and resolve leaks, blockages, and system failures on service calls; communicate clearly with customers.
- Safety & accountability. Keep job sites organized and OSHA-compliant. Clock in/out and log job locations in Connecteam; report progress, issues, and material needs daily.
What you need
- Active Massachusetts Master Plumber license in good standing (required). Substantial Massachusetts gas-fitting experience preferred.
- 7+ years of hands-on plumbing experience, including at least 2 years supervising licensed plumbers or apprentices.
- Deep working knowledge of 248 CMR and the permit/inspection process in Massachusetts municipalities.
- Experience across residential remodels, new construction, and light-commercial work.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record; reliable transportation to the Malden office.
- Own hand tools (JMO provides power tools, specialty equipment, and a company service vehicle).
- Clear communicator — comfortable with inspectors, customers, and crews. Portuguese or Spanish is a plus.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
Nice to have
- Hydronic heating / boiler experience; radiant, mini-split condensate, or oil-to-gas conversions.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30.
- Experience building or scaling a plumbing department (processes, standards, hiring).
- Familiarity with Connecteam, Buildertrend, or similar field apps.
Pay & benefits
- $55.00 – $70.00 per hour, based on experience and scope; overtime paid per MA law. The stated range includes compensation for Licensee-of-Record responsibilities.
- Formal performance and compensation review at 90 days.
- Company service vehicle and fuel for work use; company phone/tablet.
- Paid time off and sick time; standard JMO W-2 benefits package.
- License renewal and continuing-education fees covered.
- Real ownership: you set the standards for a plumbing operation that is growing with the company.
Schedule
Full-time, Monday–Friday, typically 7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., with occasional Saturday mornings and overtime as workload, inspections, or service calls require. Based at our Malden, MA office with daily travel to job sites across Greater Boston and the North Shore.
