Overview
We are seeking a skilled Fiber Laser Working Lead to join our team in a steel manufacturing environment. In addition to operating and maintaining fiber laser cutting machines to produce precision-cut steel components according to specifications, this role directs the daily activities of the laser cell, setting run priorities, keeping operators on task, and serving as the point of contact between the laser team and Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering. This role requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, strong communication skills, and the ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and adjust fiber laser cutting machines to cut steel sheets, plates, and other metal components as per job requirements.
- Load and unload steel materials onto the laser cutting machine safely and efficiently.
- Interpret and follow technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders to ensure accurate cutting.
- Inspect finished parts using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools to ensure they meet required tolerances and quality standards.
- Perform routine maintenance on laser cutting equipment, including cleaning, lens inspection, and replacing consumables as needed.
- Make necessary program adjustments using CNC controls to optimize cutting performance and efficiency.
- Identify and resolve machine errors or malfunctions to minimize downtime.
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to company safety guidelines.
- Work closely with production supervisors, engineers, and quality control teams to meet production goals and deadlines.
Lead Responsibilities
- Prioritize and assign the daily run order for the laser cell so operators know what to run next and production stays on schedule.
- Confirm all operators are clocked in, at their stations, and actively working throughout the shift.
- Serve as the first point of contact for machine, material, or process issues on the laser cell, and alert Maintenance, Quality, or Engineering promptly when needed.
- Communicate daily happenings, open issues, and priorities to the next shift to ensure a smooth handoff.
- Monitor material availability and coordinate with material handling or purchasing to prevent downtime.
- Provide hands-on guidance and training to operators, including new hires, on machine operation, quality expectations, and safety procedures.
- Verify first-article and in-process quality checks across the cell to catch issues before they escalate.
- Reinforce safety protocols and PPE compliance among team members, addressing concerns immediately.
Qualifications & Requirements
- 2+ years of experience operating a fiber laser cutting machine in a manufacturing environment, preferably in steel fabrication, with demonstrated ability to guide or mentor other operators.
- Familiarity with CNC programming and laser cutting software (e.g., Trumpf, Bystronic, Amada, Mazak, or similar brands).
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in a physically demanding industrial environment.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, reliability, and the ability to make sound decisions independently during a shift.

Pay: $20.00 - $28.00 per hour
