Senior HVAC Service Technician Max HVAC Systems — Springfield, VA
Are you the technician other technicians call when they can’t figure out the problem?
Max HVAC Systems is looking for an experienced Senior HVAC Service Technician who can diagnose and solve complex commercial and residential HVAC systems throughout Northern Virginia and the DC metro area.
This is more than a maintenance position. We are looking for a true problem-solver who understands HVAC systems from the controls and electrical side all the way through refrigeration and mechanical operation.
What You’ll Do
- Diagnose and repair complex commercial and residential HVAC systems
- Troubleshoot RTUs, AHUs, split systems, heat pumps, VRF/VRV, mini-splits, hydronic systems and refrigeration equipment
- Diagnose electrical, controls, communication and refrigeration problems
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, control sequences and equipment documentation
- Troubleshoot 24V controls, sensors, relays, contactors, VFDs and building automation systems
- Perform refrigerant diagnostics, leak detection, evacuation, charging and system commissioning
- Identify the root cause of equipment failures—not just replace parts
- Work on restaurants, commercial buildings, offices, residential properties and other challenging applications
- Communicate findings clearly with customers, property managers and our team
- Complete service reports and document equipment conditions and repairs
- Assist with startup, commissioning and troubleshooting of new installations
- Provide technical guidance to junior technicians when needed
What We’re Looking For
Required:
- 5+ years of hands-on HVAC service experience
- Strong commercial HVAC troubleshooting experience
- Strong electrical and controls troubleshooting skills
- Ability to independently diagnose difficult problems
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and control schematics
- Valid driver's license
- Professional communication and customer-service skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of service calls
Strongly Preferred:
- Experience with VRF/VRV systems
- Experience with RTUs and large commercial equipment
- Experience with hydronic systems
- Restaurant HVAC/refrigeration experience
- Building automation and HVAC controls experience
- Experience commissioning new equipment
- EPA 608 certification
The Technician We're Looking For
We want someone who can walk into a difficult service call and say:
“Let’s figure out what’s actually causing the problem.”
You should be comfortable using a meter, gauges, temperature measurements, wiring diagrams, manufacturer documentation and your experience to methodically troubleshoot a system.
If you only replace parts, this probably isn't the position for you. If you enjoy solving problems that other technicians can't solve, we want to hear from you.
