Duties
- Perform maintenance, repair, and diagnostics on marine engines, propulsion systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components using schematics and technical drawings.
- Conduct routine inspections and troubleshooting of ship electrical systems, marine electrical troubleshooting, and electrical diagnostics to identify issues accurately.
- Assemble, install, and modify rigging systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards and technical specifications.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, calipers, soldering equipment, and precision measuring instruments to execute repairs with high accuracy.
- Maintain water transportation equipment including marine engines, mechanical systems, sheet metal components, and diesel mechanics tasks.
- Follow safety protocols by properly using personal protective equipment (PPE) during all maintenance activities.
- Interpret technical drawings and schematics for complex repairs or installations involving marine propulsion systems and electrical wiring.
- Support customer service efforts by providing technical guidance on maintenance procedures and system troubleshooting.
- Assist in heavy lifting operations using appropriate rigging techniques to ensure safe handling of large or heavy components.
- Document all maintenance activities clearly in logs and reports to ensure compliance with operational standards.
Qualifications
Ideally looking for someone with a minimum of 5 years in the industry. Although 2-5 years will be considered. Those with training and certifications will take priority in the hiring process.
- Proven experience as a service technician or mechanic within the marine or water transportation industry.
- Strong knowledge of schematics, technical drawings, electrical systems troubleshooting, and mechanical repair techniques.
- Experience with marine engine repair, ship electrical systems maintenance, and marine propulsion systems is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with rigging procedures, assembly processes, sheet metal work, soldering techniques, and the use of hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings accurately using calipers and other precision measuring instruments.
- Background in military service or related technical training is a plus; relevant certifications are preferred.
- Mechanical knowledge combined with electrical experience including diagnostics of electrical faults using ohmmeters or similar tools.
- Experience with maintenance, repair & operations (MRO), vehicle maintenance, heavy lifting procedures, and water transportation equipment upkeep.
- Strong customer service skills paired with excellent communication abilities for effective teamwork.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including heavy lifting while adhering to safety protocols involving PPE use.
