City Machine & Welding, Inc., an established Amarillo manufacturing and repair company with more than a century of experience, is seeking an experienced CNC Operator – Cutting & Forming to join our manufacturing team.
This is an experienced-hire position. Applicants must have at least two years of professional experience operating CNC, machining, metal fabrication, cutting and forming, or comparable industrial equipment.
The successful candidate must be able to safely set up and operate assigned equipment with limited supervision while maintaining production quality and accuracy.
Work Schedule
- Monday–Thursday
- 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
- One-hour unpaid lunch
- 32 hours actually worked
- 40 hours of pay
- Most Fridays off
Employees may be required to work approximately every third Friday, depending on production and business needs.
When a full Friday shift is worked:
- Monday–Thursday: 32 hours worked
- Friday: 8 additional hours worked
- Total actual hours worked: 40 hours
- Total compensation: 48 hours of pay
Overtime eligibility begins when actual hours worked exceed 40 during the applicable workweek, in accordance with applicable wage-and-hour laws and company policy.
Position Summary
The CNC Operator – Cutting & Forming is responsible for setting up and operating CNC and manual metal-fabrication equipment used to cut, form, bend, and process components for manufacturing.
Primary equipment may include:
- CNC Press Brake
- CNC Plasma Table
- CNC Tubing Plasma
- CNC 4-Axis Tubing Bender
- Shear Equipment
- Other CNC and manual fabrication equipment as assigned
The successful candidate must be able to read and interpret prints, set up assigned equipment, select appropriate tooling and operating parameters, verify dimensions and quality, and perform required finishing work.
Candidates are not required to have experience on every machine listed. Still, they must have sufficient prior experience to safely operate industrial equipment and transition to additional equipment with normal job-specific training.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up and operate assigned CNC and manual fabrication equipment.
- Operate CNC press brake equipment according to prints and specifications.
- Operate CNC plasma cutting equipment.
- Operate CNC tubing plasma equipment.
- Operate CNC 4-axis tubing bending equipment.
- Operate shear equipment and related fabrication machinery.
- Read and interpret prints, drawings, dimensions, and production specifications.
- Select and install appropriate tooling.
- Adjust machine settings and operating parameters.
- Load, position, and remove materials safely and accurately.
- Verify material type, dimensions, and production requirements.
- Use measuring tools to verify parts during and after production.
- Confirm completed components meet required dimensions and specifications.
- Perform grinding, deburring, and finishing work as required.
- Inspect completed parts for quality, workmanship, and accuracy.
- Identify dimensional or production discrepancies and make appropriate corrections.
- Monitor equipment for abnormal operating conditions.
- Maintain equipment, tooling, and work areas in clean and orderly condition.
- Follow established safety procedures.
- Maintain production efficiency while meeting company quality standards.
- Assist other departments when needed.
- Perform other related manufacturing and fabrication duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must meet all minimum requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience in CNC operation, machining, metal fabrication, cutting and forming, or comparable industrial-equipment operation.
- Ability to read and interpret prints, drawings, dimensions, and production specifications.
- Ability to accurately use measuring tools.
- Ability to set up and operate assigned equipment with limited supervision.

Work Environment
This position operates in an active manufacturing and repair facility.
Employees should be comfortable working around CNC machinery, press brakes, plasma-cutting operations, welding, grinding, material-handling equipment, industrial tools, noise, sparks, sharp metal edges, hot materials, and other conditions associated with metal fabrication.
Employees must follow company safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Lift, carry, and safely handle up to 100 pounds.
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Bend, stoop, reach, and position materials during machine setup and operation.
- Use hands and arms to handle materials, tooling, controls, and measuring equipment.
- Safely handle fabricated metal components and raw materials.
- Perform repetitive production and finishing tasks.
- Work around moving machinery and industrial equipment.
- Work around sharp edges, sparks, hot materials, and metal-processing operations.
- Wear required personal protective equipment.
