Journeyman Electrician — Know Your Stuff? We'd Like to Get Out of Your Way.
Essential Industries | Merton, WI | Full-Time, Permanent | First Shift
Some companies want electricians who follow orders. We're looking for one who can help figure out what the orders should be.
Essential Industries is creating a new position for an experienced industrial Journeyman Electrician who wants something more than another maintenance job.
We're looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, making equipment work better, and being the person others count on for electrical expertise.
This isn't one of ten electrician positions. It's one position, and it's an important one.
We're a privately owned specialty chemical manufacturer in Merton, Wisconsin. We're small, informal, and genuinely collaborative. People know one another, care about one another, and appreciate someone who brings good ideas to the table.
Why this job is different
You'll own your area of expertise. You'll be our primary in-house electrical subject matter expert, helping shape how we maintain, troubleshoot, and improve our systems.
You'll work with some smart people. Our engineering and chemistry teams are directly involved in developing and improving our manufacturing processes. You'll be part of those conversations, not simply handed a work order after the decisions have been made.
You'll have room to think. We value people who take initiative, use sound judgment, and recommend better ways of doing things.
You'll have variety. From troubleshooting electrical equipment and controls to supporting new installations, there's plenty to keep an experienced electrician engaged.
You'll have a reasonable schedule. The position is primarily first shift, with occasional off-shift or emergency support. Overtime opportunities exist, but we're not looking to build a job around constant overtime.
You'll have stability. We're an established company looking for someone who wants to settle in, make a meaningful contribution, and build a lasting working relationship.
And you'll have less bureaucracy. We're not interested in layers of unnecessary approvals. We want capable people who know their trade and care about doing the right thing.
What you'll work on
- Industrial electrical power systems, motors, transformers, switchgear, and controls.
- PLC troubleshooting, variable frequency drives, and process instrumentation.
- Electrical schematics, ladder logic, and one-line diagrams.
- Preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and electrical system improvements.
- Equipment installations, upgrades, and manufacturing projects.
- Electrical safety in hazardous classified locations, including NEC, NFPA 70E, arc flash, and lockout/tagout requirements.
You'll work closely with engineering, chemistry, production, and maintenance to keep our facility operating safely and reliably.
What we're looking for
- A valid Wisconsin Journeyman Electrician license.
- At least 4–5 years of industrial electrical experience.
- Strong troubleshooting ability with motors, controls, PLCs, VFDs, and instrumentation.
- Familiarity with hazardous-location electrical requirements, particularly Class I, Division 1 and 2 environments.
- A strong commitment to electrical safety.
- The ability to work independently, communicate clearly, and help others understand technical issues.
