Full Job Description
We are seeking a reliable, independent HVAC Field Diagnostic Technician to conduct non-repair diagnostic evaluations for property insurance claims across Eastern Massachusetts.
This is a flexible, low-stress subcontractor opportunity ideal for trade school graduates, retired technicians, or active HVAC techs looking for easy supplemental income.
There are NO repairs, NO sales, and NO heavy disassemblies required. Your sole focus is gathering data, taking clear photos, and running basic diagnostic electrical checks.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform on-site diagnostic evaluations of residential and light commercial HVAC systems (split systems, heat pumps, gas furnaces, boilers, ductless units).
- Capture clear photos of equipment data/serial plates, thermostats, disconnects, and reported damage (e.g., hail impact, coil leaks, burned components).
- Conduct basic electrical diagnostic testing using a digital multimeter (measuring line voltage, control voltage, winding resistance, and capacitor microfarads).
- Submit photo documentation and diagnostic notes directly through a smartphone before leaving the job site.
- Maintain a professional, courteous, and neutral demeanor with property owners.
Schedule & Workload
- Volume: Average of 3 to 6 site visits per week (flexible scheduling).
- Time Commitment: Each site visit takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes on-site.
- Hours: Weekday daylight hours (flexible scheduling around your primary work or school).
Qualifications & Requirements
- Formal HVAC training or hands-on trade experience required.
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable personal work vehicle/truck.
- Personal smartphone capable of taking clear photos and running job apps.
- Basic hand tools and a working digital multimeter (capable of testing AC voltage, microfarads, and resistance).
- EPA 608 Universal Certification is a plus (preferred, not mandatory).
- Strong communication, punctuality, and attention to detail.
Pay: $150.00 per day
