Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Die Set Supervisor for 2nd Shift to lead our manufacturing team in the setup, maintenance, and optimization of die sets used in our production processes for steel and aluminum automotive parts. This role is vital for ensuring the precision, quality, and efficiency of our stamping operations. As a Die Set Supervisor, you will oversee daily die setting operations on the plant floor, coordinate with various departments, and ensure that all die sets meet strict quality standards. Your expertise will drive continuous improvement initiatives and uphold safety protocols across the manufacturing facility.
Duties
- Supervisor, coordinate, and verify all die setting activities.
- Confirm correct die installation for metal stamping presses; including shut height, strip alignment, coolant placement, sensoring, and press parameters outlined on the Die Set Up Guidelines (DSUG).
- Verify programming in PLC (programmable limit controls), including any limit switches or press windows for in-die tapping or in-die automation, feeders, and sensors.
- Complete Die Set Paperwork (Die Set Up Check Sheet, Smartsheet Verification). Update as required.
- Monitor and troubleshoot die set-ups and press operations to optimize performance.
- Repair broken punches, buttons, shims, if possible. Change any perishable tooling (Coolant Lines, Short Feed Sensors, Date Stamp Retainers). Contact Tool Room for help with more extensive repairs.
- Read Quality Process Check Sheet to satisfy all job requirements (Red Bin Procedure).
- Coordinate with team members to resolve set up issues and communicate effectively with any department where follow-up is required (Quality, Maintenance, Tool Room, PSA).
- Support Continuous Improvement initiatives on the production floor.
- Follow good safety and housekeeping practices (5S).
- Knowledge of QMS/EMS.
- Assist in other areas of company operations as deemed necessary by management.
Requirements
- Proven experience in manufacturing environments with a focus on tooling, machining, or die set management.
- Strong mechanical knowledge related to stamping presses.
- Ability to read blueprints accurately and interpret technical drawings with GD&T principles.
- Familiarity with factory safety protocols and experience operating forklifts safely.
- Skilled in using precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to lead a team effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
- Basic math skills necessary for measurements, calculations related to machining tolerances, and process adjustments.
- Knowledge of OSHA and MIOSHA requirements as applied to die set up and press operations.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in automotive manufacturing.
- Minimum 5 years' experience with using a forklift truck greater than 15,000 pounds in capacity.
