Security Systems Installer / Low Voltage Technician
The Security Systems Installer / Low Voltage Technician is responsible for the installation, testing, commissioning, and documentation of access control, intrusion detection, and other low-voltage security systems in commercial, industrial, data center, and high-security environments. This position requires adherence to strict safety, quality, and security standards while working independently and as part of a project team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install low-voltage security systems including access control, intrusion detection, and related devices.
- Install conduit, cable pathways, junction boxes, equipment enclosures, and support infrastructure.
- Pull, route, terminate, label, and test low-voltage cabling.
- Install card readers, keypads, door contacts, motion detectors, alarm devices, control panels, and associated hardware.
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, wiring diagrams, and construction documents.
- Perform system testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Maintain accurate documentation, redline drawings, and installation records.
- Coordinate work with general contractors, electricians, and other trades.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with customer requirements, project specifications, and applicable codes.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and remove installation debris daily.
- Attend project meetings, safety meetings, and required training sessions.
- Assist with inventory management, material tracking, and equipment accountability.
- Protect confidential and sensitive customer information.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience installing low-voltage systems, structured cabling, access control systems, security systems, or related technologies.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and testing equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Security Clearance & Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen and legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must provide two (2) valid forms of identification, which may include:
- State-issued Driver’s License or Identification Card
- Certified Birth Certificate
- U.S. Passport
- Must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation and security screening.
- Must be eligible to obtain customer-required site access credentials and security clearances.
- Must be able to work on secure, restricted-access, government, military, and mission-critical facilities.
- Must have no restrictions that would prevent access to customer facilities or project sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with access control, intrusion detection, CCTV, and integrated security systems.
- Experience working in data centers, government facilities, military installations, or other high-security environments.
- Experience installing EMT, rigid conduit, and cable pathway systems.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Manufacturer certifications related to access control or security systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders and work from aerial lifts and elevated platforms.
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
