Lead Commercial HVAC Technician/Installer
Job Summary
The Lead Commercial HVAC Technician/Installer is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and/or repairs of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in commercial buildings. This role involves leading a team of technicians, ensuring high-quality work, compliance with safety standards, and excellent customer service. The Lead Technician/Installer will diagnose complex HVAC issues, manage projects, and coordinate with clients and other contractors to ensure efficient system performance. This role will include installation and/or service of commercial HVAC systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation and Maintenance: Oversee and perform the installation, repair, and maintenance of commercial HVAC systems: roof top units, split systems, air handlers, and air distribution.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor a team of HVAC technicians, assigning tasks, providing technical guidance, and ensuring adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
- System Diagnostics: Troubleshoot and diagnose complex HVAC system issues using advanced tools and techniques, ensuring optimal system performance and energy efficiency.
- Customer Interaction: Communicate with clients to understand their needs, provide technical recommendations, and ensure satisfaction with completed work.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure all work complies with local building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards, including proper handling of refrigerants and adherence to EPA guidelines.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of work performed, including service reports, parts used, and time spent on projects.
- Training and Development: Train junior technicians on best practices, safety protocols, and advanced HVAC techniques.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an HVAC apprenticeship or vocational training program preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a commercial HVAC technician, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Certifications: EPA Section 608 Certification (Universal) required; additional certifications such as NATE, HVAC Excellence, or manufacturer-specific credentials preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals; expertise in troubleshooting and repairing complex HVAC systems.
- Leadership Skills: Strong ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks at heights or in varying weather conditions.
- Licensing: Valid driver’s license; state-specific HVAC contractor license may be required.
Working Conditions
- Full-time position with potential for overtime.
- Including evenings and weekends, with approval, depending on project demands.
- Work primarily performed at commercial sites, including offices, warehouses, hospitals, and retail spaces.
- Exposure to mechanical equipment, high voltages, and potentially hazardous materials, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30.00 - $45.00 per hour
