Position Summary
We are looking for an experienced Laser Setup & Operator to join our manufacturing team. This position is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC laser cutting equipment to produce precision sheet metal components that meet customer specifications and quality standards. The ideal candidate has experience with laser cutting technology, strong blueprint reading skills, and a commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC laser cutting machines for production.
- Load and unload sheet metal using forklifts, cranes, or automated material handling systems.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work orders, and cut files.
- Verify machine setup, tooling, material type, and thickness before production.
- Perform first-piece inspections and make adjustments to ensure parts meet specifications.
- Monitor machine performance and production throughout each run.
- Inspect finished parts for quality, dimensional accuracy, and edge condition.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and keep equipment clean and operational.
- Troubleshoot machine, programming, and material issues to minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate production records and report material usage and scrap.
- Follow all company safety procedures and maintain a clean work environment.
- Collaborate with programming, engineering, and quality teams to improve efficiency.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- 2+ years of experience operating and setting up CNC laser cutting equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with fiber laser systems such as Bystronic, Trumpf, Amada, Mazak, Mitsubishi, or similar equipment is preferred.
- Ability to read blueprints and understand geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience with precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with CNC controls.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with nesting software and CNC programming.
- Forklift and overhead crane certification or experience.
- Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes.
- Experience working in a lean manufacturing environment.
- Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
Pay: $22.00 - $32.00 per hour
