Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Pipefitter Foreman to lead and oversee the installation, modification, and repair of hydronic piping systems, steam systems, and condensate systems on commercial and industrial construction projects. This role requires a hands-on leader who can effectively manage field crews, maintain labor productivity, ensure quality workmanship, and uphold the highest safety standards. The ideal candidate will possess extensive industrial/commercial pipefitting experience, certified welding credentials, strong leadership skills, and the ability to coordinate jobsite activities while working closely with project managers, field supervisors, contractors, and customers. The Pipefitter Foreman will play a critical role in driving project success through planning, crew development, quality control, and efficient field execution.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise pipefitting crews consisting of 2–6 employees while providing direction, training, coaching, and daily work assignments.
- Plan, assign, coordinate, and evaluate the work of pipefitting personnel in accordance with company policies and project requirements.
- Ensure all pipefitting staff follow company procedures, safety policies, and established quality standards.
- Communicate effectively with contractors, project managers, field supervisors, and internal personnel regarding project progress, manpower needs, scheduling, and jobsite challenges.
- Instruct and mentor pipefitters on proper installation techniques and procedures utilized within the hydronic and steam pipefitting trades.
- Pre-plan and coordinate labor, materials, and workflow to maximize productivity and project efficiency.
- Review and interpret project specifications, job documents, piping schematics, and company job-specific drawings to ensure accurate installation.
- Monitor crew performance and adherence to plans, specifications, and project requirements throughout all phases of construction.
- Inspect completed work to verify compliance with drawings, specifications, quality standards, and installation procedures.
- Serve as a working foreman by actively participating in field installation activities while leading the crew.
- Perform cutting, threading, soldering, brazing, grooving, pressing, mechanical joint assembly, fusion joining systems, and general pipe installation.
- Install, assemble, modify, and test hydronic piping systems, steam systems, condensate systems, and associated mechanical equipment.
- Connect valves, fittings, pumps, and related mechanical components in accordance with construction documents and manufacturer specifications.
- Perform pressure testing and quality verification of completed piping systems.
- Assemble and install carbon steel, copper, ductile iron, PVC, and other piping materials commonly used in commercial and industrial applications.
- Demonstrate proficiency in butt-weld and socket-weld carbon steel piping systems, including tack welding and fit-up procedures.
- Repair and replace water, steam, air, and gas piping systems as required.
- Assist with system flushing, cleaning, startup, and commissioning activities when applicable.
- Monitor labor productivity and work quality to ensure project schedules and customer expectations are met.
- Coordinate manpower, tools, equipment, and materials necessary for successful project execution.
- Utilize company-issued technology, including iPads and construction software, for project documentation, communication, and reporting.
- Enforce OSHA regulations and company safety standards to maintain a safe work environment for all personnel.
- Participate in safety meetings, job hazard analyses, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety initiatives.
- Maintain professional relationships with customers, contractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders while representing the company in a positive manner.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years of industrial and/or commercial pipefitting experience.
- Proven leadership experience supervising pipefitting crews, field personnel, or construction teams.
- Certified Welder required.
- Extensive knowledge of hydronic piping systems, steam systems, condensate systems, and mechanical piping installations.
- Strong understanding of carbon steel, copper, ductile iron, PVC, and related piping materials.
- Proficiency in cutting, threading, welding, soldering, brazing, grooving, pressing, fusion joining, and pipe assembly methods.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, project specifications, piping isometrics, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Strong understanding of commercial and industrial construction practices.
- Demonstrated ability to plan work activities, coordinate labor resources, and maintain project schedules.
- Competency using iPads and digital construction technology.
- Ability to write routine reports, communicate effectively, and maintain project documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities in field construction environments.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, construction safety requirements, and quality control procedures.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations involving fractions, percentages, ratios, measurements, and geometry relevant to pipefitting applications.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and team-building skills.
Work Environment
This position requires work in active commercial and industrial construction environments where exposure to mechanical equipment, welding operations, elevated work areas, and varying weather conditions is common.
While performing the duties of this position, employees frequently stand, walk, climb, reach, balance, bend, kneel, crouch, and use hands and arms for handling materials and operating tools. Verbal communication and hearing abilities are required for safe and effective jobsite coordination.
