Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Steel Worker to join our manufacturing and construction teams. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of metal fabrication, welding techniques, and construction site operations. This role involves interpreting technical drawings, operating power tools and fabrication machinery, and ensuring that all work complies with safety standards and industry codes. The Steel Worker will play a vital role in assembling, fabricating, and installing metal structures with precision and efficiency. Candidates with a strong mechanical aptitude, experience in shop fabrication, and familiarity with industry standards such as AWS and ASME are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to guide fabrication and assembly processes.
- Operate various power tools, including plasma cutters, press brake machines, and grinders, to shape and assemble metal components.
- Perform welding using multiple techniques such as MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), adhering to AWS standards.
- Measure materials accurately using calipers, micrometers, measuring instruments, and shop math to ensure precise fabrication.
- Fabricate sheet metal components and assemble structural elements according to project specifications.
- Use rigging equipment for lifting and positioning heavy metal parts safely on construction sites or within fabrication shops.
- Thread pipes, perform pipe soldering or gas welding as required for ductwork or piping systems.
- Maintain safety protocols at all times by adhering to OSHA regulations and site-specific safety procedures.
- Collaborate with team members to meet project deadlines while ensuring quality workmanship.
- Assist in the operation of forklifts or other machinery necessary for material handling.
Skills
- Proven construction site experience with the ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
- Proficiency in welding techniques including MIG, TIG, FCAW, SMAW, gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and plasma cutting.
- Strong mechanical knowledge complemented by experience with shop fabrication processes.
- Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
- Familiarity with ASME codes & standards for manufacturing and fabrication practices.
- Ability to read schematics, technical drawings, and mechanical blueprints effectively.
- Experience with rigging, pipe threading, ductwork installation, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Knowledge of safety protocols related to welding operations, heavy lifting equipment like forklifts, and general construction activities.
- Basic math skills necessary for shop calculations including measurements, angles, and material estimations.
- Understanding of metal materials used in fabrication projects along with the ability to interpret technical specifications.
