Dynamic stainless steel fabricator in the Southeast Suburbs of Cleveland, OH (Solon) is looking for experienced people to help us keep up with growing demand. Competitive wage based on ability and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Fabricate custom stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel parts and assemblies from engineering drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions.
- Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, drawings, and work instructions to determine fabrication requirements and the most efficient fabrication sequence.
- Measure, layout, cut, fit, and assemble components while maintaining dimensional accuracy.
- Operate fabrication equipment including saws, grinders, drill presses, sanders, and other fabrication tools.
- TIG weld stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel to produce high-quality finished products.
- MIG weld carbon steel as required.
- Verify dimensions throughout the fabrication process to ensure assemblies meet print specifications and customer requirements.
- Inspect and test completed work to ensure quality standards are met before moving to the next operation.
- Troubleshoot fabrication and fit-up issues while maintaining productivity and quality.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- When working at a customer's facility, leave the work area in the same condition (or better) than it was found.
Skills, Experience, and Training
Fabrication Skills
- Experience fabricating custom metal parts and assemblies from prints.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, sketches, and work instructions.
- Experience measuring, laying out, fitting, and assembling weldments with minimal supervision.
- Ability to determine fabrication sequence and identify potential fabrication challenges before beginning work.
- Functional knowledge of fabrication equipment used to cut, shape, grind, finish, and assemble metal components.
- Experience using layout and measuring tools including tape measures, squares, calipers, levels, and angle finders.
- Ability to maintain tight tolerances while fabricating custom assemblies.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to think in three dimensions.
- Experience using hand tools including drills, grinders, screw guns, cut-off wheels, and other fabrication equipment.
- Ability to safely operate an overhead crane and forklift.
Welding Skills
- High proficiency in TIG welding stainless steel with an emphasis on cosmetic weld quality.
- Experience TIG welding aluminum.
- Experience MIG welding carbon steel.
- Ability to control weld distortion and maintain dimensional accuracy.
- Working knowledge of welding procedures, weld symbols, and industry best practices.
General Qualifications
- Prior fabrication experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to use digitized information and electronic work instructions.
- Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
- Excellent communication skills and willingness to collaborate across departments.
- Positive attitude with a commitment to continuous improvement.
Skills Assessment
Applicants will complete a practical fabrication assessment designed to evaluate the skills required for success in our shop.
The assessment may include:
- Blueprint and weld symbol interpretation
- Measuring and layout
- Material preparation
- Cutting and fit-up
- Assembly and tack welding
- TIG welding
- MIG welding
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting
- Overall workmanship and attention to detail
Candidates will be evaluated on fabrication ability, print reading, measuring accuracy, fit-up, welding quality, craftsmanship, safe work practices, and overall problem-solving ability.
