About WSI

Whitmore Steel is a 30-year, AISC-certified structural steel fabricator and erector based in San Diego. We self-perform erection with our own crews, allowing our engineering, shop, and field teams to work as one throughout the project lifecycle.

We deliver structural steel and miscellaneous metals for commercial, healthcare, industrial, and mission critical projects across the western United States. As we continue expanding into data center and mission critical construction, we’re looking for an experienced Project Manager who enjoys leading projects, building client relationships, and delivering successful outcomes.

The Opportunity

As a Project Manager, you are the commercial and operational leader of the project.

Working alongside Project Engineers who own technical coordination and drawing review, you lead overall project execution; you would be be managing client relationships, budgets, schedules, procurement, forecasting, change management, and project delivery from award through closeout.

This role offers significant opportunity for growth. We are looking for someone who not only delivers successful projects today, but who can grow into leading larger, more complex programs, mentoring project teams, and helping shape how WSI executes increasingly sophisticated work.

What You’ll Do

Manage structural steel fabrication and erection projects from award through closeout.
Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, schedules, and cost reporting.
Coordinate engineering, detailing, fabrication, delivery, and erection activities.
Build strong working relationships with owners, general contractors, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Lead project meetings and maintain clear communication with all stakeholders.
Manage procurement of steel, hardware, subcontractors, and specialty services.
Prepare, negotiate, and manage change orders.
Identify project risks and develop practical mitigation strategies.
Partner with Project Engineers to ensure technical coordination supports successful project execution.
Report project status, financial performance, and key project risks to company leadership.
As experience and responsibility grow, participate in preconstruction, design-assist, value engineering, and mentoring of junior project staff.

What You Bring

5+ years of structural steel project management experience.
Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, detailing, erection, and project delivery.
Experience managing project budgets, schedules, forecasting, and profitability.
Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
Ability to lead multiple projects while coordinating engineering, shop, and field teams.
Experience with PowerFab, Tekla, BIM 360, or similar construction management software.
Experience with commercial, industrial, healthcare, or mission critical projects is a plus.
Candidates with significant experience leading large, complex structural steel programs are encouraged to apply.

Why Join WSI?

This isn’t a role where you’re buried in paperwork or limited to one part of the project. Because WSI self-performs erection, you’ll manage the complete delivery process; from engineering coordination and fabrication through field installation and project closeout.

You’ll work directly with company leadership, build lasting relationships with clients, and have the opportunity to help shape how WSI delivers increasingly complex structural steel projects.

As WSI continues expanding into data center and mission critical construction, we’re looking for people who want to grow with the company. Whether your strengths lead you toward larger project leadership, mentoring teams, preconstruction, or broader operational responsibilities, we believe career growth should be driven by performance, leadership, and contribution - not simply by job title.
