SunCoast Power is a rapidly growing Florida Certified Electrical Contractor headquartered in
Tampa. We provide electrical, low voltage, fire alarm and life safety, and public safety radio
(ERCES) scopes with our own Florida workforce. Our projects run across the Tampa Bay
region: multifamily and student housing, commercial interiors, medical, self-storage, and
public work for municipalities and school districts. We are growing, and we promote from

Office/Shop: 6375 Harney Road, Suite 102, Tampa, FL 33610 Project Area: Tampa Bay and
Central Florida, typically within a 75-mile radius of the shop. Occasional out-of-area projects
with per diem.
Overview
We are seeking a Fire Alarm Estimator to join our team. The estimator will be responsible for reviewing construction drawings and specifications, performing fire alarm takeoffs, determining labor and material requirements, obtaining equipment pricing, and preparing accurate and competitive proposals.
This position requires a good understanding of commercial construction documents and fire alarm systems. Candidates with previous experience as a fire alarm estimator, designer, project manager, or experienced fire alarm technician are encouraged to apply.
Duties
- Review architectural, electrical, mechanical, and fire alarm drawings and project specifications to determine the complete fire alarm scope of work.
- Perform detailed fire alarm takeoffs, including control equipment, initiating devices, notification appliances, modules, power supplies, wiring, conduit, and related materials.
- Estimate labor hours and material costs based on project requirements and installation conditions.
- Review specifications, addenda, bid documents, and electrical/fire alarm plans for project-specific requirements.
- Identify fire alarm interfaces with sprinkler systems, HVAC equipment, elevators, smoke control systems, kitchen hood systems, access control, and other building systems.
- Request and review equipment and vendor pricing as required.
- Prepare detailed proposals including scope of work, pricing, inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications.
- Identify discrepancies, missing information, potential change-order items, and scope gaps before submitting proposals.
- Communicate with general contractors, electrical contractors, vendors, engineers, and internal project personnel as necessary during the estimating process.
- Assist with change-order estimates and pricing for active projects.
- Maintain organized estimating documentation and assist with project handoff after contract award.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in fire alarm estimating, fire alarm installation, fire alarm design, electrical estimating, or a related construction field.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, mechanical, and fire alarm construction drawings.
- Knowledge of commercial fire alarm systems, equipment, wiring, conduit, and installation practices.
- Familiarity with NFPA 72 and applicable fire alarm codes and standards.
- Understanding of NFPA 70/NEC requirements applicable to fire alarm installations is preferred.
- Ability to accurately estimate material quantities and installation labor.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PDF/plan review software.
- Experience with construction takeoff software is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and bid deadlines.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
We are particularly interested in experienced fire alarm technicians who have strong plan-reading and computer skills and are interested in transitioning from field work into an estimating position.
Compensation and Benefits
Pay: $21.00 -$35.00 per hour, based on experience and license.
