The primary purpose of this position is to support fabrication and assembly activities in the shop while learning the trade. This position works under the direction of the Warehouse/Fabrication Manager and experienced team members.

- Learn and follow all safety rules and procedures.
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.
- Assist with material handling, staging, and preparation.
- Learn to read and understand prints/drawings, instructions, and shop layouts.
- Develop skills to assemble piping systems and components to industry and company standards.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
Success Measurements
- Consistently follows safety protocols. Goal: zero accidents.
- Demonstrates steady improvement in skills and knowledge of the trade.
- Contributes to quality assemblies with minimal rework.
- Maintains a positive, team-oriented attitude.
Typical Duties
As part of a fabrication team and under supervision, the apprentice will:
- Assist in preparing and staging materials for fabrication.
- Help assemble basic piping groups (carriers, racks, hangers, sleeves, drains, etc.).
- Learn and perform basic tasks such as cutting, threading, soldering, and other assembly processes.
- Assist with fixture kitting, bagging, and tagging of components.
- Support team members on more complex assemblies such as restroom skids, medical gas assemblies, and HVAC piping, as skills progress.
- Maintain shop tools and equipment in good condition.
- Follow instructions and ask questions to build knowledge and skills.
Requirements
Professional
- Between 2 to 4 yrs of commercial plumbing experience (this can be in the field or as a plumbing fabricator
- Experience working with various piping materials to include cast iron, pvc, and copper
- Experience with sweating copper and/or brazing
- Experience with building toilet carriers
- Experience with various tools to include power tools, saws, pipe cutting and threading machine, etc.
- Willingness to learn and take direction.
- Ability to stay calm and focused in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic ability to read and understand instructions and drawings (training provided).
- Strong commitment to safety.
- Positive attitude and good communication skills.
Physical
- Ability to work with hands and basic hand tools.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, bend, kneel, or crouch for extended periods.
- Climb ladders and maintain balance.
- See clearly (with correction if necessary).
- Willingness to work overtime if required.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Due to exposure of machinery and electrical currents, employees are required to wear personal protective equipment. During warmer months, the required personal protective equipment may cause the employee to be very warm while working. The individual will be exposed to loud machinery or equipment.
