Build furniture you’re proud to put your name on.
Simply Tables builds high-end custom furniture for restaurants, hotels, and hospitality spaces across the country. We specialize in hardwood tables, with additional work in metal, terrazzo, and other custom furniture.
We’re looking for an experienced Wood Finisher / Woodworker who can produce consistent finishes, mix and adjust stains to match customer-provided samples, and help manufacture our hardwood tables.
You’ll be our primary finisher, responsible for finish quality from surface preparation through final inspection. Approximately half your week will involve woodworking, including cutting, processing, sanding, and assembling hardwood tables. The balance will vary with production needs.
This role requires both professional finishing skills and the ability to safely and confidently operate woodworking equipment. You should enjoy taking a piece from raw material to a finished product.
What You’ll Do
- Take responsibility for the finishing process, from surface preparation through final inspection.
- Mix and adjust stains to match supplied samples, accounting for differences in wood species and grain.
- Create sample boards for approval and document stain formulas and application methods so results can be repeated.
- Apply stains and spray finishes with consistent color, coverage, and sheen.
- Identify and correct finish defects.
- Set up, clean, and maintain spray equipment and keep the finishing area organized.
- Spend approximately half the workweek cutting, processing, sanding, and assembling hardwood tables.
- Safely operate saws, wide belt sanders, orbital sanders, and other woodworking equipment.
- Read shop drawings and manufacture parts to the required dimensions and quality standards.
- Coordinate woodworking and finishing tasks around production priorities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Required Skills
- Professional experience spray finishing wood furniture, cabinetry, millwork, or similar products.
- Demonstrated ability to mix and adjust stains to match physical samples.
- Strong surface preparation and sanding skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot spray application and finish-quality problems.
- Hands-on woodworking experience, including cutting and processing hardwood, sanding tabletops, and safely operating saws and sanding equipment.
- Ability to read shop drawings and follow specifications.
We’re looking for someone who can independently produce quality finishes and confidently handle woodworking tasks. Relevant hands-on ability matters more than a specific number of years or job title.
How You Work
- Take pride in consistent, careful work.
- Notice problems and communicate them before a piece moves forward.
- Take ownership of your work and follow through on responsibilities.
- Stay productive and organized throughout the day.
- Accept feedback and look for ways to improve.
- Help teammates and adapt when production priorities change.
- Work efficiently without sacrificing quality.
Helpful, but Not Required
- Experience finishing solid hardwood tables or commercial furniture.
- Experience with metal fabrication or stone and terrazzo.
