Position Summary
The Manufacturing Production Manager oversees all aspects of production within an architectural woodworking facility, ensuring that custom millwork, cabinetry, and wood components are manufactured efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards. This role coordinates material flow, labor, and equipment to meet project schedules, maintain craftsmanship excellence, and deliver products that reflect the company’s commitment to architectural precision and detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and direct daily manufacturing operations across all woodworking departments (machining, assembly, finishing, Shipping and the custom departments).
- Schedule and prioritize production workflow based on project deadlines, material availability, and manpower.
- Coordinate closely with engineering & project management to ensure product specifications are accurately executed.
- Oversee receiving and inventory of raw materials such as hardwoods, veneers, and panel goods to maintain adequate supply levels.
- Supervise production personnel, providing leadership, training, and performance management to build a high-performing team.
- Uphold quality standards consistent with architectural woodworking and AWI (Architectural Woodwork Institute) specifications.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on craftsmanship, productivity, and waste reduction.
- Ensure safe work practices and compliance with OSHA and company safety guidelines.
- Maintain and report key performance metrics including efficiency, production rates, and on-time delivery.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to minimize downtime and maintain machine readiness (CNC routers, edge banders, saws, sanders, etc.).
- Ability to perform or oversee basic machine repairs and maintenance as needed.
- Support a culture of precision, teamwork, and pride in producing high-end custom architectural products.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of management or supervisory experience in an architectural woodworking or millwork manufacturing facility.
- Strong knowledge of woodworking production processes, machinery, and materials.
- Proven ability to read and interpret shop drawings and architectural blueprints.
- Experience with production scheduling, workflow optimization, and lean manufacturing methods.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple custom projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Commitment to maintaining quality craftsmanship while achieving production goals.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods on the production floor.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs as required.
- Regular exposure to woodworking machinery, dust, and industrial environments.
