Position Description:
Our Applications Engineer role concentrates on commercial and industrial steam and hot water generation. This person is a considerably experienced estimator in the industry focusing on boiler, steam systems, hydronic heating systems, and mechanical systems. This is NOT a residential HVAC estimator role. The Applications Engineer will manage the overall activities relating to assigned project estimates including qualifying incoming bid requests, coordinating engineering efforts, consulting on design issues, solicit and review subcontractor proposals, review vendor quotes for accuracy, and all other activities associated with providing a complete and detailed estimate.
Job Duties:
- Configure and recommend best fit solutions for customer system requirements using products from our suppliers.
- Create accurate quotes and submit in a timely manner within our established system, including material estimates and cost projections for products
- Communicate and provide timely follow up with customers and other end users regarding status of the quoting process
- Ability to identify missing information needed for estimates and effectively communicate that to the appropriate personnel
- Liaise directly with customers on progress to resolve any technical queries
- Collaborate with customers and Engineers to ensure equipment meets system requirements.
- Communicate closely with the sales team to comprehend customer demands and provide necessary sales support
- Build strong customer rapport and foster product acceptance
- Strategize modifications to products to align with consumer demands
- Recommend new and improved products to customers, emphasizing cost-effectiveness
- Review plans and specifications to thoroughly understand the scope of a project and the project specific requirements relative to estimating the cost of the work.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of mechanical estimating experience; specifically large project, commercial/industrial cost estimating
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred, or equivalent experience
- Strong technical background with the ability to understand and explain complex technical concepts
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated with strong project management and organization skills with the ability to take initiative to manage projects and meet goals
- Proficient with software including Microsoft Office and experience with CRM systems with the ability to learn FIRCO internal systems
- Proficient with reviewing drawings and specifications. After being trained and familiarized with FIRCO product lines, will be able to identify if our product lines have a good fit and if any clarifications, deviations, or exceptions will be necessary.
