RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical & Operational Oversight

Manage setup, calibration, and operation of heavy fabrication equipment including fiber lasers, CNC turret punches, press brakes, robotic welders, and manual grinding/painting stations.
Validate CNC programs and tooling paths to improve machine performance, reduce material waste, and optimize bend sequences.
Coordinate routine and Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedules to eliminate machine downtime and bottlenecks.
Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and out-of-tolerance conditions directly on the floor.

Leadership & Workforce Management

Supervise, coach, and manage a team of 5–20 hourly sheet metal operators, welders, and finishers.
Enforce strict time-and-attendance policies, manage electronic timecard clock-ins/outs, sick leave notifications, and planned PTO requests.
Execute disciplinary action paths for attendance point violations and issue formal written performance warnings when necessary.
Design and document cross-training programs to build team flexibility across lasers, punches, and press brakes.

EHS, Quality, & Compliance

Enforce strict OSHA compliance, manage Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols for heavy machinery, ensure forklift certifications, and ensure proper personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye, hand, and respiratory protection.
Investigate and draft detailed safety incident reports for any workplace injuries or near-misses.
Review complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and job orders to verify part tolerances using calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
Maintain plant workmanship standards for weld quality, grinding smoothness, and paint finishes.

Continuous Improvement & Reporting

Apply LEAN manufacturing concepts (such as 5S, Kaizen, and Pareto analyses) to eliminate process inefficiencies.
Track and report daily Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including throughput, scrap rates, and labor hours.
Interact with ERP systems to monitor material availability, track work-in-progress (WIP), and ensure edge-of-pallet tracking compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Standard

Education: High school diploma or GED
Experience: 2+ years of manufacturing leadership + 2 years floor fabrication experience
Technical Skills: Blueprints, 11-gauge to thin-gauge CRS weight charts, calipers
Software: Basic MS Office, ERP system data entry
Physical Max: Stand 8-10 hours, lift up to 50 lbs.
Communication: English (written and verbal safety reporting)

Preferred/Advantageous

Education: Associate/Bachelor’s in Industrial Engineering or Management
Experience: 5+ years supervising a high-volume metal fabrication environment
Technical Skills: CNC programming (e.g., Trumpf, Amada), 3D model viewers (eDrawings)
Software: Advanced production scheduling software, CAD/CAM interfaces
Physical Max: High dexterity for machine tool setup demonstrations
Communication: Bilingual proficiency (English / Spanish)
