Part-Time HVAC & Refrigeration Helper / Apprentice
AirTek Mechanical, Inc. — Dripping Springs, TX
Pay: $25–$35 per hour, based on experience
Schedule: Part-time / as needed, typically 2–3 days per week
Location: Dripping Springs, TX and surrounding Austin area
About the Position
AirTek Mechanical, Inc. is looking for a dependable, mechanically inclined individual to assist directly with HVAC and refrigeration service, repair, and installation work.
This is a part-time, as-needed position, typically 2–3 days per week. Hours are not guaranteed and may vary depending on workload. We generally expect to provide approximately one week's notice when work is available.
HVAC or refrigeration experience is preferred, and pay will reflect experience and ability. However, we are also willing to consider someone with less experience who has strong mechanical aptitude and a genuine desire to learn the HVAC and refrigeration trade.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to work directly alongside an experienced HVAC/refrigeration professional and gain hands-on experience in service, troubleshooting, repair, and installation rather than performing only basic shop or cleanup duties.
Job Responsibilities
You will work directly alongside the owner/technician assisting with:
- Residential HVAC service, repair, and installation
- Light commercial HVAC service and installation
- Commercial refrigeration service and repair
- Equipment replacement and new installations
- Troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration systems
- Brazing, piping, evacuation, charging, and startup assistance
- Ductwork, drain piping, refrigerant piping, electrical, and controls
- Loading/unloading equipment, tools, and materials
- Jobsite setup and cleanup
- Other duties associated with HVAC and refrigeration service and installation
Responsibilities will increase with your experience and demonstrated ability.
What We're Looking For
HVAC/refrigeration experience is preferred but not required for the right mechanically inclined candidate.
More important than having years of experience is being someone who is:
- Dependable and on time
- Conscientious and willing to do the job correctly
- Hard-working and able to stay productive
- Mechanically inclined
- Comfortable using hand and power tools
- Able to follow instructions and work safely
- Interested in learning HVAC and refrigeration
- Willing to ask questions and learn from hands-on experience
- Able to work independently on assigned tasks as skills develop
Applicants with previous HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, construction, maintenance, or similar trade experience are encouraged to apply.
Requirements
- Reliable transportation to our Dripping Springs home base/shop area
- Own basic hand tools appropriate to your experience level
- Ability to lift and carry approximately 50–75 lbs
- Ability to climb and work from ladders
- Ability to work in attics, crawlspaces, and on rooftops
- Ability to work outdoors and in Texas summer conditions
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to safely perform physical trade work
Transportation from our Dripping Springs meeting location to jobsites will generally be provided.
HVAC/refrigeration experience and EPA 608 certification are a plus but are not required for an entry-level candidate with the right aptitude and attitude.
Schedule
This position is intended for someone looking for flexible, part-time work rather than guaranteed full-time employment.
Work is typically available 2–3 days per week, depending on our current service and installation workload. The specific days may change from week to week, and there is no guaranteed minimum number of hours. We generally provide approximately one week's notice of the upcoming schedule.
Because of the variable schedule, this position may be particularly well suited to someone who has flexibility in their schedule and is looking for additional HVAC/refrigeration experience or part-time trade work.
Compensation
$25–$35 per hour, depending on HVAC/refrigeration experience, skills, certifications, and demonstrated ability.
A less-experienced candidate with strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn may start toward the lower end of the range. Candidates who already have useful HVAC/refrigeration service or installation skills may qualify toward the higher end.
